It is only about 225 pages and I read it completely on one of my flights to Israel.

At the time I read the book, Lagunitas Brewing was my favorite brewery. They were producing great beer that stood out among the 2500+ craft breweries at the time. I really enjoyed reading about how Tony started the brewery and all the stories behind the different beers. I think I’ll read it again just because it has been 5 years and I love good stories.

Starting new things...

It’s the day before Thanksgiving and I have a lot of things to be thankful for this year…even though 2020 has been the toughest year for a lot of people. Kris and I have been doing a lot new things for the show…for one we created this website (work still in progress), we started a Patreon campaign (so thankful for all the support from our community), we started a YouTube channel and have been producing videos (so much work, but fun) and most recently we started a second podcast collaboration with the guys from the Fermented Reality Biergarten in Tampa, FL (long time listeners will remember they were a sponsor of the show providing our listeners a chance to win a set of BCUPS).

It’s the day before Thanksgiving and I have a lot of things to be thankful for this year…even though 2020 has been the toughest year for a lot of people. It’s the start up of this new podcast that I wanted to write about today. Starting a new thing is tough…especially when it is not necessarily your own thing…and you are an engineer with tendencies of over analyzing and trying to be too perfect. I had ideas in my head of what the new show would be (given the feedback from one of the owners of the biergarten) and prepared ideas and outlines to structure the show for success.

Let’s say the first episode recording was an eye opener…the outline was out the window and chaos commenced. I was a bit shocked and concerned…but I quickly adapted to the idea that the show will be completely different than I had worked out in my head. I was able to piece together a pretty decent show and identified a few technical issues that we could resolve.

The second show wasn’t without a few technical snafu’s, but the content was solid…but again I had to do some editing magic behind the scenes to cut down the 3+ hours of content into a 2 hour show. Kris decided we would record the video and put it up as well. I am not a guy that likes to be in front of a camera. One thing most people don’t know is I have to work at speaking clearly and without a stutter. My mind is much faster than my mouth and I have to focus to slow things down and make everything come out clear. One of my coping mechanisms to get through it is to close my eyes to focus on the words when I feel like it is getting out of control. The more I drink the harder it becomes and the more I need to gain back control of my speech. With this being said, I am a bit self-conscious when I see myself doing it on video.

We will release the audio for EP3 tomorrow morning, but today Kris released a portion of the recording session video. I had already completed the audio edit and listened to the show in its entirety and felt we really made a huge improvement in the flow of content and with each other. It required very little editing and there were no audio sound issues. Amazing how quickly we went from complete chaos to a very well done content episode…without much content preparation. We had decided on 4 main topics and then just free flowed through the execution.

What I really enjoyed the most was watching the video of 3/4 of the content. This really shows the flow and interactions of hosts and had some funny parts that were even funnier seeing it unravel in front of us. If you have the opportunity, I suggest watching the video to get a behinds the scenes look at making a podcast with 5 hosts.

I am thankful for my very supportive family, for my good friend Kris who on many occasions made my day (and even week) this year more enjoyable, for our wonderful listeners and community who continuously surprise me with their support and interactions and for 2020 coming to an end and for 2021 to be a better year.
